Coffee
Coffee is reported to be among the most widely consumed beverages in the world.

For many people, coffee is a breakfast staple, providing a boost of energy to start the day.


Coffee is a complex chemical mixture reported to contain more than a thousand different chemicals.

Compounds in coffee may affect human health.

1. High blood pressure
Caffeine can cause a dramatic increase in blood pressure.

Caffeine may block a hormone that widens the arteries.

Caffeine causes your adrenal gland to release more adrenaline, which causes your blood pressure to increase.


However, Harvard Health Publications states that moderate daily coffee consumption does not increase blood pressure in the long term.

2. Serum Cholesterol

Two substances found in boiled coffee, cafestol and kahweol, have been shown to raise cholesterol levels.

Cafestol suppresses bile acid synthesis.
→ suppression of bile acid synthesis may provide an explanation for the cholesterol-raising effect of cafestol in humans
